Goals
Students interested in this service learning opportunity will be working with staff members assisting individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities for this opportunity include assisting with medical care, feeding, interacting, and helping with activities. According to the CDC (2013), individuals with disabilities are more susceptible to health risk factors including mental illness, overall poorer health, and less access to health care. With added attention and support, these individuals will have a higher quality of life which will have a positive effect on their health.
Students interested may contact Lisa Mitchell to start the application process. Students are required to attend training sessions and obtain a background check.
