Goals
Students interested in this service learning opportunity will be assisting the Children’s Justice Center in putting together educational materials for the parents and training material for staff. Child abuse, whether it is physical or emotional, can have damaging effects on a child. Studies show that child abuse leads to social, emotional, and cognitive impairment which then lead to adoption of high risk health behaviors which lead to potential disease/disability and even death (Felitti et al, 1998). It is important for health professionals to understand and recognize the impact that abuse has on children and the society.
